Each June, the Knights of the Garter gather at Windsor Castle where new Knights take their oaths and are awarded the insignia. Following lunch, the Knights proceed to St George’s Chapel, wearing their traditional blue velvet robes, black velvet and white feathered hats and red velvet hoods draped over one shoulder.
The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal family attend the Garter Ceremony and this year it will take place on Monday 13th June 2011.
